Shropshire Associates (SA) has been providing quality professional traffic engineering, transportation planning, and design services for over a decade. Our firm was founded in 2000 by David R. Shropshire, a registered Professional Engineer and Professional Planner in the State of New Jersey. SA provides engineering consulting services to both the public and private sectors, resulting in our involvement in over 1,000 projects throughout New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia; our prominent area of practice is within the State of New Jersey. Public sector clients include various municipalities, counties, and boards of education throughout the State, as well as the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT).
Our office is located in Atco, New Jersey, where our team of licensed professionals, degreed engineers, technical support staff, and field technicians utilize their experience and technical knowledge to work together and provide our clients with a quality finished product. All projects are managed by our licensed Professional Engineers, handling client relations and overseeing the technical preparation of all deliverables. SA staff members hold several licenses and certifications obtained through years of professional experience in an effort to further professional development and provide our clients with the most qualified and reputable engineers possible. Our engineers maintain professional engineer licenses in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia as well as professional planner licenses in New Jersey. Additionally, SA personnel maintain New Jersey certifications as Certified Municipal Engineers (C.M.E.), Professional Traffic Operations Engineers (PTOE), and Certified Noise Technicians.
SA keeps an up to date technical library to ensure that all engineers and staff are well informed and knowledgeable on industry and regulatory standards. In compliance with NJDOT requirements, SA workstations utilize MicroStation V8i computer aided design (CAD) software, along with the necessary plotting hardware. AutoTurn software is integrated with our CAD platform, allowing the simulation of complex maneuvers for predefined and customizable vehicles. Visual Pro is also integrated with our CAD platform, providing highly accurate analysis of lighting design for roadways and parking facilities. SA utilizes the latest releases of Highway Capacity Software, TRANSYT-7F, Synchro, and SimTraffic for analyzing and modeling complex roadway networks and traffic distributions. As recommended by the Environmental Protection Agency, SA utilizes the CAL3QHC software program to model carbon monoxide dispersion associated with traffic delays along roadway and at intersections.
SA field technicians are equipped with the latest in traffic enumeration hardware. Handheld electronic traffic data collectors allow our field technicians to accurately record vehicle turning movements, traffic gaps, saturation flow, intersection delays, and vehicle classification. Automatic traffic recorders allow for the measurement of traffic volume, vehicle classifications, speeds, and gaps in traffic over the course of a day, week, month, or even year. A vehicle can even be equipped with a distance measuring device that allows for easy inventory of roadway signage. SA noise technicians utilize equipment necessary to measure sound levels, wind speeds, and tempurature. As required by the New Jersey Noise Control Act, our sound level meter is factory-calibrated and certified annually.
